This design competition titled – latrobe city (transiting cities – low carbon futures international design competition) questions “how designers can promote and encourage new innovative and alternative opportunities to emerge in order for latrobe city to transition into a low carbon, prosperous, and vibrant future”. [quote style=”1″]This is an ambitious project that will take place on an international stage while maintaining a local focus, “thinking globally and acting locally”.[/quote]

We will call on renowned international designers and academic institutions from a wide range of disciplines including architects, landscape architects, urban designers, planners, engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs, economists, artists and students. Each entrant will submit design visions for how Latrobe city: the associated coal mining industry and agglomeration of townships may be transformed and current aspects strengthened for the future. Each participating team will be given a specific site in Latrobe City, a defined brief, specific submission requirements that they will be required to fulfill. Prize money and fame will be awarded to the winning projects!

Transiting Cities is an international design ideas competition and it is open to everyone. Participating teams can have one or more members. Projects can be real or speculative proposals. Proposals need not be generated exclusively for this competition but reworked to demonstrate how they can be applied to the site of the competition.

Prizes:
FIRST PRIZE: $15,000 AUD CASH PRIZE
SECOND PRIZE: $3,500 AUD CASH PRIZE
STUDENT PRIZE: $2,500 AUD CASH PRIZE
THREE HONORABLE MENTIONS: CERTIFICATES

Winners, honorable mentions and shortlisted finalists will be published in several print magazines and dedicated Transiting Cities publication and exhibited at Latrobe Regional Gallery and Melbourne Design Hub.
