Designing a residence for a well known real estate developer is a major challenge in itself. The central idea in this project was to make a mark, to design a signature residence that had to be special, different and yet a comfortable home for a discerning client.

The residence is a perfect ‘fusion’ of Indian traditional architectural elements in the form of spaces and modern characteristics. The house comprises of covered, semi-covered and open spaces, making the most of natural light and allowing for cross ventilation. The zones within the residence are basic and uncomplicated in character. The aesthetics of the interiors are minimalistic and yet functional.

One of the structural challenges was to design the slit windows of enormous length with the column sizes reducing as the floors climbed. The circular window of six feet diameter at the top-most level was also a tough task, especially to place glass therein. The drainage for the rain water was another tricky issue but it was resolved and the drain concealed at the elevation meant to be maintained.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The double height foyer acts as a connecting zone to the various parts of the house. The stairs finished in rustic river-washed granite and the rail replaced by steel cables give a very secure feel as well as make the place appear spacious.

The wooden floor, the solid wood dining table and the mood lighting adds to the ambience that is already created by the location of this area facing two patches of garden on either side.

The bar –  An extension of the sloping roof adds that jazz factor to the suite room on the second floor with the specially created rafters and purlins of sleeper wood to add the attic feel.

A cozy corner in suite room is done in rustic jute and dark textured wood dashed with accessories of crystal and raw silk.

The family area is minimal yet classy and practical.

Exposed brick masonry,  wood in various shades and texture, yellow light, all conjure up to create the perfect ‘homely’ ambience of this corner of the master bedroom on the first floor.

The open-to-sky shower area of suite room  turned out to be everyone’s favorite and it was done in  all rustic black and brown theme.

All the bathrooms of the house were tactfully created to being very practical and yet add to the grandeur of the house.
